Witches are humans[1] with the power to affect change by magical means (witchcraft). Although the term "warlock" is commonly used to differentiate male witches from female witches, it appears that "witch" is a gender-neutral term that does apply to both men and women.
History[]
The origin of witchcraft remains a mystery, however, it is known that witches have existed for many centuries, passing down their knowledge and skills through generations in family lines. Contrary to popular belief, witches do not receive their powers from demons, nor do they worship the Devil. Instead, several witches consider themselves the protectors of humanity, as they make it their job to use their unique abilities to serve and protect those in need.[1]

Magic (or witchcraft) is the power to affect change by supernatural means. Magic can often be split into benevolent and malevolent, though depending on the situation can also be neutral.

Powers and Abilities[]
Depending on their level of skill, witches possess a number of magical abilities. By joining together, witches can increase their magical strength and achieve feats a single witch can't. Among their many supernatural talents are:
- Spell Casting: Witches can change and/or control events through the use of incantations or rituals. According to Karsh, an incantation is a sort of rhyming, spellbinding wish or hope.[2]
- Individual Powers: Witches seem to posses certain unique supernatural powers that require no sort of incantation or ritual to activate. Notably, Alex and Camryn both seemed to manifest several innate gifts without any formal training, and even progressed to learn several more. Also, Karsh eventually taught Ileana to transmute herself.
Weaknesses[]
- Belief: According to Karsh, spells only work if the witch casting it believes in magic.[3]
- Witchcraft: Witches are still susceptible to the powers of witchcraft.
- Mortality: Despite their mystical attributes, witches are still human and share many of the same weaknesses as non-supernatural beings (e.g. age, decapitation, disease, heart-failure, suffocation, snapped neck, etc.).
Trivia[]
- Magic in the televised movies seemed far more extravagant and whimsical than presented in the novel.
- Witches in the film versions are not and do not claim any sort of "protector of the innocent" type of role.
- Good witches of the T*Witches novel series seem to take on a very similar role to the good witches of the American supernatural fantasy drama television series known as Charmed.
